Strange Dreams

This is an "audience participation" post but in all fairness since I'm going to be asking some questions, I'll take the time to answer them as well:

1) Do you remember your dreams?

Sometimes. I did have a peculiar one last night that I'd rather not go into (at least not in such a public forum)

2) As a child did you have any recurring dreams? If so, what were they?

It wasn't a recurring dream, but there were dreams with recurring themes of robbery/burglary and cannibalism (I know, Freud would have a field day with that). As a child these were nightmares. As an adolescent, one of my robbery/burglary dreams took a humorous twist. My house kept getting robbed and shortly before I woke up I dreamed the burglars came back, I answered the door and told them if they could find anything left over they were welcome to take it because I'd already been cleaned out by other burglars.

3) Do you have any recurring dreams any more?

Not that I know of.

4) What's the strangest/most unusual dream you've ever had?

See above

5) Do you ever get "haunted" by ghosts from your past in your dreams (old flames, grade school bullies, etc.)

A few ex-girlfriends have made appearances in some of my dreams over the years.

Okay, I've played-- now it's your turn!

I already pretty much answered all of these in my response to your comment on my blog at:

Great questions. I do remember most of my dreams but can't begin to describe my strangest one - it was too strange for words. I have a few reoccuring dreams, in fact I had one last night and I think it indicates I'm stressed out:

In the dream I go to put my contacts in but I can't get them in my eyes because they are HUGE. I mean, huge, like a few feet across! I panic in the dream because I don't see well without them and I actually try to put them in my eyes wondering if there is some trick to it, like if I try they will shrink. I hate the dream!

1) Do you remember your dreams?

Often but not always

2) As a child did you have any recurring dreams? If so, what were they?

I used to have this dream where I was in water, clear water, not like water as we know it, and I could breathe. And at the end of being there the sesame street characters would somehow be a part of the dream. But they weren't exactly comforting to see. Hard to explain.

3) Do you have any recurring dreams any more?

Not that I know of.

4) What's the strangest/most unusual dream you've ever had?

Have had so many, but not exactly reoccuring.

5) Do you ever get "haunted" by ghosts from your past in your dreams (old flames, grade school bullies, etc.)
YEP! SUCKS!

1) Yes, I frequently remember my dreams.

2) Yes, I had a recurring dream as a child of being in a jungle and being attacked by a huge tarantula the size of a dog, and using a vine to swing by and kick it out of the way a la Tarzan. I had hundreds of nightmares as a teenager as well, mostly about people being killed by horrible monsters.

3) No, all of my dreams these days are unique snowflakes.

4) My most unique dreams have also been the most horrific and goriest and you don't wanna hear about them.

5) Some ex-boyfriends have turned up in my dreams (or nightmares, I should say).

1) Do you remember your dreams?

Usually, especially if they're really weird!

2) As a child did you have any recurring dreams? If so, what were they?

Not as a child, but as an adult, I have two. The first is that typical dream where I'm back in college and it's finals week and I realize that there is a class I haven't been to all year and I'm going to fail. I always wake up in a panic until I realized that I did, in fact, graduate! The other recurring one is that all of my teeth fall out. Damn, I hate that one.

3) Do you have any recurring dreams any more?

Oops, I didn't read ahead! See previous answer.

4) What's the strangest/most unusual dream you've ever had?

Oh God, I couldn't possibly answer. I have some doozies. I actually had a dream about blogging recently. I dreamed that Roger Daltrey died and I posted a tribute to him on my blog. Weird. Then I was inspired to use one of his videos as my forgotten classic that week!

5) Do you ever get "haunted" by ghosts from your past in your dreams (old flames, grade school bullies, etc.)

I occasionally dream about people I used to be friends with in junior high, and dumb stuff like that, but they don't plague my dreams or anything. Not too many ex-flames show up.

dantallion: Actually it was your response that inspired this post. Good on you, old sport!

barbara: I'm no Freud but I'd interpret that dream to mean either that you should be very observant about events in your live or that you already are but that you're having trouble keeping the events of your life clear... But when it comes armchair psychology I'm more of the Pavlov school than the Freud. I had a dream that a bell was ringing and I woke up and found my pillow drenched in saliva. ;-)

Lauren: Well some of those Sesame Street characters are kind of scary... Burt with his Uni-brow and the Count... I find them both kind of creepy... And then there's Oscar... He's not scary, just rude, wouldn't want to have him turn up in my dreams either. Now Grover, Ernie, or Cookie Monster... I wouldn't mind any of those characters.

tworabbitshow: That tarantula dream is too strange... I won't venture an interpretation on that one. Are you arachnophobic? Or possibly an arachnophile (a fan of spiders and other arachnids)?

Beckeye: I used to get that one too... It was far more frequent when I was fresh out of college. Now that I've been out of college for almost 9 years I don't have that dream near as often. As for your Roger Daltrey dream... I'd be upset if he passed away! In The Who vs. Led Zeppelin debate I'm firmly in The Who camp (more because of Townshend than Daltrey however... But I do prefer Daltrey's vocals over Robert Plant's).

I am an arachnophobe, indeed. During the period I was having that dream, my parents were getting divorced. I'm sure the two were related.

Oh, as far as unique and bizarre dreams go, I did just dream a few days ago that Ralph Wiggums had opened a comedy club in the apartment next door and I couldn't sleep at night because of the audience laughing so loudly. Just had to share that gem.

1. Sometimes. Especially if I wake up very early and fall back asleep - the dreams I have then I'm likely to remember.

2. I was eaten by a giant. After that, whenever I started having that dream, I would make myself wake up. I can still do that from within dreams.

3. My stress dream is that I fall in deep water.

4. I had a dream my brother was trying to kill me and it was horrible.

5. Yes.
