Less is More... or is More Really Less?

The other day Samantha Brett tossed out a question on her Sam and the City blog, when being physically/sexually attracted to the opposite sex more skin/less clothes or more clothes/less skin. To which I responded:

I tend to agree with the more philosophy. It's not just that dressing provocatively gives off the "community property" vibe, it can also give off the vibe that:

a) Your body is all you have to offer, there's not much "under the hood" so to speak.

b) By dressing provocatively you're drawing attention away from your face, if you're trying to draw so much attention to your body what are you trying to draw attention away from?

A woman's body is beautiful, flaws and all. The "flaws" are what make you you and seperate you from "the pack."

And generally disrobing in front of someone shows a certain level of trust, a dropping of the guard. Men are generally more guarded than women and under-dressing gives the impression that the women are more open and sometimes that openness is a bit intimidating for men. "If you're that open about what you wear, what else are you that open about?"

So ladies, if you're trying to snare a bloke, wear clothes that accentuate your positives, not clothes that lay them bare for the world to see.

Your thoughts?

I think men ogle under-dressed women but their girlfriends usually dress more modestly.

This is just my observation :)

Maybe that's because husbands/boyfriends don't want their girlfriends/wives to under-dress, because they're possessive. I guess it's a chicken-egg thing. I think men enjoy the scenery of scantily clad women but are not as likely to date/marry them.

Just a guess.

I agree with you. I think women shouldn't dress so provocative, of course I often don't mind, but when I'm looking for a girl that I actually want to date it sure isn't the one that's wearing nothing.

In many way, I think that women dress for other women rather than for men. It's got to do with competition and what society dictates is sexy and that men like.

I think there's a happy midpoint somewhere.
If there's nothing showing to catch the eye, it will pass by. But if it looks too "community," she won't get respect.

This follows a common observation that waitresses in strip clubs seem more attractive than the dancers, even though they're semi-clothed.

I like it when a woman looks very feminine and confident. But looking slutty might make me look, but I'd be afraid to touch.

It sends the wrong signal.
