Picture from the past

As per Barbara's request I've posted a pic from my high school graduation back in June 1995. I remember it being unbearably hot that day (I think it was about June 21st or so), the ceremony was in the school gymnasium and there was no A/C. After the ceremony we all went outside to throw our caps. At my first opportunity I unzipped my gown as I felt like I'd been marinating in my own sweat.

I remember feeling like I'd joined "the club" insofar as my five older siblings (Classes of 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1983 respectively), both my parents (1951 and 1952 respectively), not to mention a couple of uncles, and several cousins had all also graduated from the same school (although when my parents had attended it had been in a different building).

Could you be any cuter? Hee hee! Great photo! Thanks for posting it. '95? Oh my gosh.....when do you turn 30?

I think it's a tradition for it to be hotter than the blazes at graduation, when most people have to wear black polyester robes. (Actually, I think my robe was white, if I remember correctly.)

I felt much the same as you in that same gym, but in 1982.

Great shot. Were you happy to be out of there?

Barbara: Thanks! I turn 30 in October (I'm a Scorpio).

susan: and as you can see my gown was green. I think the girls wore white and the boys wore green when I graduated. Was it the same way when you graduated or did the guys have to wear black that year?

dantallion: Like you wouldn't believe! The college I went to was over 625 miles away and I couldn't wait to start my freshman year of college... if for no other reason than it meant I'd finally "escaped"

What a guy! I think it's great that you post these pics, Perplexio. Thanks for sharing!

Well, now that I look closer at the photo, I see that it IS green---it looked black to me at first.

And honestly, I cannot recall if the boys wore green or black. But the girls wore white, which sort of annoyed me. I felt like I either was A) going through first communion again, B) getting married, or C) wearing a shiny labcoat without pockets.

I would have preferred black or green. Well, at least I got a black robe for college graduation.

It was really hot during my graduation as well. It was an outdoor graduation with no breeze what so ever and brutal temperatures. At least I know my college graduation will be indoors in a nice cool place.

Green Eyes: And I'm considering starting to post HNTs, although if I do that, I'm going to be a bit wacky about it... You may or may not see what I mean in the near future.

Susan: At my college graduation we had black gowns as well. The funny thing about my alma mater, it's a very small private liberal arts college in Michigan (I think you'll appreciate the nature of this tale). When I was a student there I picked up a copy of a book detailing 150 years of the college's history (1835-1985), in the book was a picture of a graduation program from the 19th century that listed where the various students were from... one of the students on the graduation program was from Constable, NY. It just blew my mind that over 100 years before I went there someone else from the North Country had also gone there.

Jeff: My college graduation was outdoors and there was a persistent light drizzle. But in hindsight that was preferable to the unbearable sweaty stale heat of my high school graduation.
