WooHoo Yay!

So my wife & I have been house-hunting. Last night we made an offer on a townhome in a nearby suburb and today the seller counter-offered and we accepted their counter-offer. We close on September 1st!

It will be so nice to know my monthly payments are going towards a mortgage, a home-- an investment instead of into the bank account of the ownership group that owns my apartment complex and pads the coffers of people who probably have multi-million dollar mansions in Oak Brook or Hinsdale and vacation homes in Arizona and/or Florida.

The new home:
3 bedroom
1.5 bath
2 car garage
All appliances (oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, washer, and dryer) stay
The laundry machines are on the 2nd floor with the bedrooms which is bonus! No lugging laundry up and down stairs. No having to scrounge for quarters any more. We are stoked!

Great! You're moving on up to the East Side.
I'm already jealous of the 2nd floor laundry, and somehow your "Current Music" seems fitting.
:)

dickeybird: Thanks man! It's nice to finally be getting a piece of the pie. As for my current music, Champlin is one of the most soulful white boys out there. And you're right that song is all too appropriate. The new locale will add about 15 minutes to the commute each way (provided I take the expressway). And it's in a Naperville school district. Naperville has some of the best schools in the US (not to mention Naperville was recently rated the #2 place to live in the US-- after Fort Collins, Colorado) Our address isn't Naperville-- but it's close enough to Naperville to put us into their school district so that's like uber bonus! Even if we move again before we have kids that are of school age, the good schools will be a great selling point.

Congrats!! Welcome to the club! I'm jealous of the laundry. If there would have been a way, I'd have moved it upstairs as well. I lived in a place that the washer/dryer right outside the bedrooms and it was unbelievably convenient.

Half a bathroom? Must be for the 2.5 children. ;>

Congratulations Perplexio! there is nothing more rewarding and frustrating than owning your own home. :-) But don't worry -- the rewarding far outweighs the frustrating!!

Congrats!!! I look forward to making that announcement one day too.. but probably in a year or so. I know it's a big step but like you said, your monthly payments will be going to your home and not to the apt complex. I hate that they take all this money from us but take forever to fix maintenance requests. :)

Congrats! That has to be really exciting, finally moving into a house which you can truly call your own.

Dude...congrats. I know you're happy.

INCREDIBLE NEWS! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU TWO! THIS IS A BIG DEAL (THAT'S WHY I AM WRITING IN BIG LETTERS)

Will you have a house-warming party and invite all your blog buds? I hope so!!

And with a townhome, all the exterior maintainence is taken care of too probably. You get the best of both worlds.

Congrats, both of you! I'm so happy for you, know you've been looking for awhile now.

Belated congratulations, Perplexio! (Sorry for the delay - a migraine put me out of commission for a few days)

It's nice that you'll be able to move in to your new digs so soon, too.

And as for the extra half-hour on the road ... well, that's just more time to listen to your favourite tunes, right?

Normlr: Actually I thought the 1/2 bath referred to the amount of water in the toilet. It's only half as deep so when you give your misbehaving half children swirlies you won't accidentally drown them or have DCFS called on you.

snooze: Thanks for the kind words! It'll be great to have the extra space (about 530 square feet more than our current apartment).

keshi: I'll check it out when I can, I've been swamped with work and new home stuff. Hopefully I'll get a few moments to breathe soon. :-)

curare_z: We're really looking forward to it!

Susan: I think the laundry sitch is what I'm most looking forward to actually! I'm sick of having to scrounge for quarters every time I need to do my wash.

lostintx: The next big sticker shock is when you see how much you actually end up paying for that home when interest is taken into consideration. We're planning on paying extra to pay down the principal as you can knock YEARS off your payments by doing so.

jeff: I'm totally stoked!

Bruce: Totally thrilled!

Barbara: I'm not sure whether or not we'll do a housewarming party as my 30th b-day is in late October so my wife may opt to do a combo Birthday/housewarming party.

Phoenix: When you say "best of both worlds" for some reason I think of hermaphroditic porn-- oh yeah, that's from Clerks... Best of Both Worlds was the name of the porno Randall got from the video store.

Green Eyes: Yeah we switched realtors and mortgage brokers and have been much happier with our current realtor and mortgage broker than we were with our previous ones.

ink: No worries on the belated-ness. My wife used to get really bad migraines on a regular basis so I know how it can take one out of commission. Thanks for the congrats!
