The Music of Our Lives

Another excerpt from my paper journal:

I love the way a good song wraps itself around me like a blanket. It keeps me warm on cold nights. It fills me with a sense of nostalgia.

A good song is more than just notes on a page, it's more than just the music being played, or the lyrics sung. A good song is a bird's eye view of human emotion-- happiness, sadness, anger-- any and all points in between. Sometimes it's a photograph into our past. But a photograph merely captures the image. A song captures the memories, the sum of experiences we associate with that music. It's not a mere image being captured, it's the whole experience, the sights, sounds, smells, and emotions.

Music, if we let it, is the soundtrack of our lives, the love songs we associate with all the slow dances, soft kisses, and romantic moments with that special someone. Admit it, a relationship doesn't feel quite right until you have an "our song" and that song isn't the one you choose-- the song always chooses you-- a soundtrack for your life, for your love, for all the seasons and experiences you share with that special someone, all the days of your lives
