Snow in July?!?!

Strange things are afoot in Long Island. As many of you know I'm a bit of a hockey fan. I was reading yesterday that the NY Islanders fired their General Manager, Neil Smith, after only 2 months and replaced him with..... their back-up goaltender, Garth Snow. For you non-sports fans such a move is akin to the owner of a large corporation firing his CEO and replacing him with the janitor or Jack from the mailroom.

I've got to see if I can find the transcript of the press conference when these announcements were made. Garth Snow announces his retirement as a goaltender immediately before being announced as the team's new General Manager. It just seems rather amusing to me. I'm not sure but I'm guessing his first task will be to find a new back-up goaltender (someone he could possibly groom to double as his assistant GM?)

That being said, considering how bad the Chicago Cubs stink this year, maybe they should fire Dusty Baker and promote their bat-boy to manager... He certainly couldn't do any worse.

Two months isn't giving a man much of a chance in a sports organization. He must have really cheesed off the wrong people.

Fuzz: I agree. The owner of the NY Islanders is Charles Wang. He's been making several questionable decisions during his tenure as the owner. At one point he changed the Islanders logo to something resembling the Gorton's Fish sticks logo (a fisherman wearing rain slickers). Needless to say the new jerseys with said logo didn't go over so well and the team eventually reverted to their original and current logo.

Wait. I REMEMBER this plot. It's just like the movie Major League. He's trying to make the team loose so much money that he can move it to Miami or somewhere.

Now, all you need is Charlie Sheen with a buzz-cut and you're set for one of the all-time great comebacks. Stanley Cup here you come?
